Default Why people use Bots

i was just in Elona Reach and there was a large number of Mo/W bots. I have two questions

1. Is there something going on in Elona Reach?
2. What is the purpose of using bots?

Bots are macros programmed by some saddo. They are usually 55hp monks and carry out the necessary enchantments (based around Prot Spirit) to stay alive and deal damage without dying.

I hate bots, stay away from bot sites as well, they may be spyware or trojans

Bots are for lazy people, or total nerds with no desire to demonstrate any real ability to properly play a game rather than show off their 1337 stats and UBER gear. Originally i assumed bots cater to the typical family who drive 30 yards to the bus stop which is just outside their house, who are so lazy they would macro getting up in the morning if they had the chance, but NO, bots are spreading like the black death!

The saddest thing about macroing: What fun is having amazing progress and gear in a game if you never actually spent time playing it properly in the first place!? No sense of acheivement whatsoever! Moreover, why go to all the trouble of macroing anyway when youre probably gonna quit the game in the future! For example, there is a lot of autoing on Runescape Classic, yet the question is why? why auto to get far in a game when it isnt worth it in the first place? What you gonna do when all your toon is maxed out? Typical autoing players are naieve and don't take much thought into consideration.

these "people" make over 100k per night while real person is sleeping. next morning the real person sells 100k on ebay for 15$ (or whatever is the price)

these bots are (unfortunatly) a source of a small income to some people.... i just hope not main one

go to ebaY AND SEE ALL the 100k sold there

What I want to know is why anet seemingly turns a blind eye to these obvious bots.

I've put some of these bots into my f.list and they are there even after a few months.

The only changes I've noticed so far is nerfing and making it harder for normal new people to make gold.

Maybe they're not bots?

Think of the number of copies botters buy. Anet don't turn a blind eye but alter environments to make it harder but no 100% impossible to farm somewhere because they have the genuine players interests to think about.

Wouldn't botters buy more copies if their accounts get banned?

$8 I thought. Surely minus the running costs of your PC its not a huge profit : /

Maybe not to me or you, but it is when all these $8 are being made by hundreds of people all the time, in a country with very low wages for the benefit of some local gangmaster.

Basically, the way it usually works is that there are people there, too; typically, the bot does the work, but there's people behind it to sell off the items and do transactions. Bot goes out and does the work, person offloads char and sends it back out, bot takes over.

Someone here once posted this link, and it's a pretty good idea of what happens: http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3141815
